Substance Use Concerns

In a confidential and non-judgmental space UHS mental health providers work collaboratively with students to identify their readiness to make changes in their relationships with alcohol and/or other substances.  Students and providers will work toward the goal of improving health outcomes and reducing harmful behaviors.

A personalized treatment plan may include individual and/or group counseling. Group treatment can help students build community through offering and receiving support from others who are also making changes in their relationship with alcohol and/or other substances. Additional on- and off- campus resources may also be considered.

Counseling options

Connect one on one with a mental health provider to discuss your ongoing concerns and/or engage in identity exploration. Sessions typically last 50 minutes

Connect with peers about your experiences and learn skills like mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

This assessment provides an opportunity to meet one-on-one with an alcohol and drug specialist, who will evaluate the nature of any concerns you are experiencing with alcohol or drugs.

Students are given the freedom and encouragement to independently choose to change high-risk drinking behaviors by evaluating the risks associated with excessive use of alcohol using harm reduction coping strategies presented during the program.

Alcohol and Cannabis eCheckup is an online assessment that allow you to learn more about your own substance use habits, compare behaviors to peers, and connect to helpful campus resources.

By answering a series of questions, eCheckup creates a profile that includes your drinking pattern, a comparison report to other people of similar age and gender, a personalized blood alcohol content chart, and an estimated amount of money you spend on alcohol annually.

This program is available 24/7 at no cost.
