Allergy Immunotherapy
The UHS Allergy Immunotherapy team (in the Community Health Department) provides allergy injections to students who already have an established allergy provider. Our team of RNs will guide you through the process of establishing or continuing your care at UHS.
UHS cannot initiate a treatment plan, but can continue the desensitization program you began with your regular allergist. We will store allergy serum in the clinic during your treatment.
Seasonal allergy treatment and referral for allergy testing can be provided in Primary Care.
Establishing or continuing care

Information for appointments
What to expect
Once we have received all of your required paperwork from your allergist, you will be notified about scheduling your first appointment.
Prior to each appointment, you will be prompted via MyUHS to fill out a pre-visit questionnaire. The questionnaire must be completed 24 hours before the appointment.
Prior to giving you your allergy injection, we will take your blood pressure and temperature. Patients who are given allergy injections must remain in the clinic for 30 minutes following their injection.
Bring your EpiPen
You are required to bring an EpiPen to your appointment.
If epinephrine is administered for an anaphylactic reaction in our clinic, the student will be immediately transferred to a local Emergency Department for further evaluation and monitoring. This protocol ensures comprehensive post-anaphylaxis care. After an anaphylactic reaction, the next injection must occur with an allergy specialist.
Frequently asked questions
Building and cluster injections are outside the scope of UHS services. Our office can hold you at your current dose until you are able to continue building to your top dose with your home allergist.
There is not a charge from UHS for your allergy appointments.
If pre-medication (antihistamine) is required by your allergists prior to injections, these medication costs vary based on personal insurance coverage or over the counter prices. EpiPen fees will vary based on your personal insurance coverage, through the pharmacy of your choice
If you are referred to the ER due to a reaction, any associated fees will vary based on your personal insurance coverage.
Your allergist may ship serum to UHS. This process is outlined in the UHS Referring Allergist Agreement Form. Or, students may deliver and pick-up all medications in person at the UHS Allergy Immunotherapy Department (6th Floor Green, UHS 333 East Campus Mall) during posted business hours. If students deliver and pick up, they need to sign an Allergy Immunotherapy Serum Transport Attestation Form with an allergy RN upon arrival. Medications must be in the original prescription bottle/container with the label intact.
Please notify the Allergy Immunotherapy team via secure message or phone call 1-2 days in advance if you wish to take your serum home with you for break so we can package your serum and paperwork appropriately. You may pick up your serum during regular UHS business hours.
You should not receive allergy shots if you are not feeling well. It is best to wait until you are recovered to receive your injection. Please call UHS if you are not feeling well ahead of your appointment, and your appointment will be reschedued.
You are required to bring an epi pen to your appointment. If you do not bring your EpiPen to your appointment, you will be asked to reschedule your appointment.
When you filling out your pre-visit questionnaire, please indicate that you are late for your scheduled injection. You may also notify the RNs prior to your appointment time by sending a secure message in your MyUHS portal.
