Is there a cost to receive a vaccine?

Students and employees can all receive a no-cost flu vaccine, even if they don’t have proof of health insurance or their health insurance does not cover it. If health insurance does not cover the COVID-19 vaccine, the University will not cover the cost.

What information do I need to bring to my appointment?

Students and employees must bring their Wiscard and health insurance card or information to their vaccine appointment.

Is parking available at UHS vaccine clinics?

Parking is not provided for vaccine appointments. Search for campus parking options near your appointment.

Vaccine Information

Flu Vaccines

VaxPro, an approved vendor,  will be administering only thimerosal‑free vaccines this season. VaxPro is providing the standard trivalent flu vaccine, which contains antigens from three influenza strains selected annually by the CDC to offer broad seasonal protection.

COVID-19 Vaccines

At UHS vaccine clinics, VaxPro will be administering Moderna’s updated 2025/2026 monovalent mRNA vaccine, cleared by the FDA. This vaccine is designed to target the spike protein of the Omicron LP.8.1 subvariant of the JN.1 lineage — the strain selected for the 2025/2026 season.

UHS and our vaccine partner, VaxPro, are staying informed on evolving COVID-19 vaccination guidance. As of September 24, 2025, all UW–Madison students and staff can receive a COVID-19 vaccine at a UHS vaccine clinic, billed through their individual insurance. We will provide updates if there are changes to vaccine availability or campus members’ eligibility to receive the vaccine. Please see the UHS vaccine webpage for the most up-to-date information.  

If you have scheduled a vaccine appointment, and there are changes in vaccine availability, you will receive a text message and an email with updates on your appointment status. 

FAQs on COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility

As of September 24, 2025, all UW–Madison students and staff can receive a COVID-19 vaccine at UHS vaccine clinics this fall. The COVID-19 vaccine will be billed through your health insurance. Please note that coverage varies by insurer. If you have questions about your insurance coverage, please contact your insurer directly. 

As of September 24, 2025, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services recommends COVID-19 vaccines for all Wisconsinites over six months of age. Based on this guidance from the state of Wisconsin, most health insurance plans are likely to cover the cost of COVID-19 vaccines for people in Wisconsin. We recommend students and staff members speak with their insurer to confirm coverage prior to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. 

If health insurance does not cover the COVID-19 vaccine, a student or employee can still access the vaccine and would be responsible for the full cost (estimated to be around $125). 

No, you do not need to provide documentation of eligibility, a doctor’s note, or prescription to receive a COVID-19 vaccine at UHS vaccination clinics. While some pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens require prescriptions for COVID-19 vaccines, this requirement does not apply to UHS vaccine clinics.  

You will be asked by a medical professional to confirm that you have an underlying condition prior to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine at a UHS vaccine clinic. If you do not have an underlying condition, you can still receive a COVID-19 vaccination at a UHS clinic, but your insurance company’s coverage of the vaccine may vary.
