Drop-in Support at Let’s Talk
No-cost, confidential drop-in support. No topic is off limits.
Attending Let’s Talk can help support you through common concerns including stress, sadness, relationship struggles, academics, family problems, financial struggles, and more.
Sessions are 20-25 minutes and are available on a first come, first serve basis.
Let’s Talk is not a substitute for ongoing counseling and doesn’t constitute mental health treatment, however providers can listen to specific problems, help explore solutions, and introduce you to what it’s like to speak to a member of our staff.

Frequently Asked Questions
Let’s Talk is best fit for students who:
- Aren’t sure about counseling or are wondering what it’s like to talk to a mental health provider
- Have a specific problem and would like to talk it through with a mental health provider
- Aren’t interested in ongoing counseling but would like the perspective of a mental health provider
- Have a concern about a friend or family member and would like ideas about what to do
For in person sessions, you can expect to meet with the provider in a private, comfortable space. If the provider is with another student upon arrival, you may wait until their session is complete. Sessions are 20-25 minutes and available on a first come, first serve basis.
Let’s Talk is an informal drop-in service that provides consultation and support for specific concerns.
Individual Counseling can be accessed by scheduling an Access Appointment, assessing symptoms, coming up with a treatment plan, and signing formal paperwork. Individual counseling is an ongoing service in which you may see the same provider repeatedly and will check-in with you about your concerns.
Let’s Talk is meant for short-term specific concerns. If your next appointment is not soon enough, it is best to call UHS at 608-265-5600 (option 2).
One exception is that providers may need to share information in a situation in which the safety of yourself or others is a concern. Providers keep brief written notes of their sessions in the event that there is an emergency, or when a student is referred to UHS. In these situations, other UHS mental health staff may see these notes.
