Acupuncture

Please note: Acupuncture will not be available during the summer. Last day for appointments is May 16.

Student acupuncture available through UHS is an efficient, inexpensive method to relieve discomfort and pain, reduce the effects of stress, minimize the results of lack of sleep, poor diet and too much studying or partying, and to satisfy curiosity about that "weird voodoo placebo thing."

The group acupuncture session (preceded by a brief private consultation) is a synergistic experience. This Asian model is efficient by encouraging more frequent and timely treatment. The number of sessions required to resolve an issue varies depending upon cause, severity, system involved, location, etc.

Try Acupuncture at UHS

Group acupuncture is available on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons at UHS, 333 Campus Mall. Make appointments by phone (608-265-5600) or online using MyUHS.

Cost: The cost is $20 (cash only) paid directly to the acupuncturist at the start of treatment.

UHS Acupuncture services are not covered by the Student Health Insurance Plan. UHS does not bill insurance nor provide billing statements to submit for insurance reimbursement for acupuncture services.

Concerned About the Needles?

Three reasons why acupuncture needles do NOT feel like a syringe:

  1. They are solid not hollow and therefore very fine gauge.
  2. They are flexible and bend to accommodate body tissue.
  3. They are sharpened like a pencil not like a scalpel. They are made to slide between muscle fibers not to slice.
