Community Building

By defining student health in the broadest sense of the term, University Health Services (UHS) takes a bold and groundbreaking stance that views issues of race, gender, class, ability and sexual orientation as critical to the health of our shared campus community. The task of cocreating an authentically inclusive community — one which addresses fully the layered and complex reasons why students of color, international students, differently abled students and LGBT students have historically been marginalized and oppressed — is a responsibility that we all share.

UHS's Community Building Projects/initiatives include:

  • Student SEED Seminars are currently held in the College of Letters and Science and the School of Business. Discussions are also being held about expanding Student SEED to the College of Engineering, the Athletic Department, and the School of Pharmacy.
  • Consulting and collaborating with schools and colleges, units, programs and student organizations across campus to help improve diversity efforts (e.g., diversity and social justice workshops, the Understanding Privilege (UP) and other student social justice retreats).
