Questions for UW Health, UW Hospital, and the School of Medicine and Public Health
UHS is not part of UW Health, UW Hospital, or SMPH (although some of our providers also have appointments at the medical school). Please contact their Media and Public Affairs Office: www.med.wisc.edu/contact-us/376
Questions for UHS Pharmacists
Requests to interview a member of the UHS Pharmacy must be approved by both the UHS Communications Office and the UW Health Media and Public Affairs Office.
Photography and Video Requests
Our responsibility to safeguard patient confidentiality and comfort extends to all of our reception rooms and other public areas. For that reason, no video or photography of any kind is permitted at UHS without the express permission of the UHS Communications Manager or a UHS Director. A UHS staff member must accompany anyone approved to take video or photos in a UHS patient area. Permission must also be sought from the people in the reception room or other affected patient area.
This is not just our policy; it is our responsibility under HIPAA, the law that governs health care confidentiality.
Due to scheduling constraints, please note that requests to take photos or videos in occupied patient areas for class projects will rarely be granted. You may ask, but please don’t design a project with the expectation that this will be easily arranged.
Avoid Common Errors
Our name is University Health Services, or UHS.
» It is not “UW Health Services,” “the University Health Service,” or “UW Student Health.”
Our executive director is Sarah Van Orman, not “Sara,” not “Susan.”
» Her last name is two words: “Van Orman,” not just “Orman.”
» She is an MD, so if you want to refer to her using her title, it’s “Dr. Van Orman.”
